Alamine Ousmane Mey , the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, received in audience on 1 February 2023, Myriam FERRAN, Deputy Director General for International Partnerships at the European Commission. The two parties exchanged views on the operational follow-up to the high-level workshop organised on 31 January 2023 in Yaounde, relating to the presentation to the public and private authorities of the Central African region of the new financial instrument “Global Europe” and the new Investment Strategy named “Global Gateway”.
This audience enabled the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Coordinator of the Cameroon-EU Partnership, to reassure the European Union of the determination by the Government of Cameroon to support the changes envisaged and to take ownership of these new instruments in order to achieve the harmonious implementation of the NDS30. These new instruments will also contribute to regional economic integration in Central Africa, for the inclusive and sustainable development of the populations.
During their talks, the two parties also took stock of cooperation between Cameroon and the European Union. A historical, efficient and multidimensional cooperation with convincing results for the inclusive and sustainable development of Cameroon, in the domains of infrastructure, rural development, public finance reform or the improvement of competitiveness.
The end of the Cotonou Agreement creates a new paradigm for this partnership, with a greater emphasis on trade and investment.
Myriam FERRAN, Deputy Director General for International Partnerships at the European Commission, was accompanied by Berenice MIRAILLE, Head of Sector Gulf of Guinea at the Directorate General for International Partnerships, from H.E Philippe VAN DAMME, Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Cameroon, and Jerome PONS, Head of Cooperation.
