A special highlight of the 16th edition of CEMAC Day was a fitness walk held on Sunday, 16 March 2025, in Yaounde. This initiative, jointly organised by the CEMAC Youth Association (JS-CEMAC) and the Department of Regional Integration of MINEPAT with the support of the CEMAC Commission, brought together more than 300 participants from diverse backgrounds.
The event, themed ‘Promoting freedom of movement for enhanced intra-Community trade in the CEMAC zone,’ involved key players from the subregion, namely the Department of Regional Integration, MINEPAT, representatives of the CEMAC Commission, JS-CEMAC and its various clubs (IRIC, University of Yaounde 1), ISSEA, and INJS.
The rally’s starting point was the esplanade of Immeuble Rose, the itinerary took in the ‘Pharmacie du Soleil’ Roundabout, the Governor’s Offices and Nouvelle route Bastos’ Street, and ended at the Yaounde Conference Centre. Under police escort, participants walked in a friendly and energetic mood, enjoying the mild weather and combining physical effort with civic commitment.
Beyond the well-known benefits of sport, such as improved physical condition, muscular toning and mental well-being, this initiative aimed to foster regional integration and promote the free movement of people and goods within CEMAC. As Mr Boum Bissai Guillaume, CEMAC Commission Resident Representative in Cameroon, pointed out, the issue of free movement is a main stake for the institution and the people living in the Community area.
CEMAC Day remains a strategic opportunity for Member States and citizens to build stronger subregional cooperation while highlighting integration achievements. This renewed commitment through sport bears witness to the desire to make CEMAC a buoyant space for exchanges, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
