Cameroon-UNDP Cooperation: The Steering Committee of the Regional Stabilization Facility- Cameroon Window seeks more for the Far North Region.

The 4th National steering Committee Meeting of the Regional stabilization Facility- Cameroon has taken place in Yaounde .The meeting that took place this 20 September at Hilton Hotel was chaired by the Minister of the Economy, Planning, and Regional Development Alamine Ousmane Mey.

 

The objectives of the meeting were to evaluate the degree of implementation of the Regional Stabilization Facility- Cameroon Window project and to develop strategic guidelines for the implementation of the upcoming phase .Also, the meeting sought to present the main challenges, constraints and opportunities identified in the implementation of the upcoming Phases and propose appropriate remedial measures

 

Accompanying the MINEPAT at the meeting were the Resident Representative of UNDP in Cameroon, ALIOU MAMADOU DIA, The Minister of Basic Education Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family, Professor Marie-Thérèse ABENA ONDOA, Minister of Youth and Civic Education MOUNOUNA FOUTSOU and Madam the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Corinna Fricke and other Administrative and International partners.

A detailed presentation of the realizations of phase II of the Regional Stabilization Facility for the Lake Chad Basin, Cameroon Window project was the Centre of the meeting amongst others. The projection was made by the Head of the Stabilization project, M. Christophe Charbon .It was observed that many different projects have been realized in 7 localities of the Far North Region among which are rehabilitation of health centres,21, security and justice infrastructure built or rehabilitated and equipped as well as education infrastructure built/rehabilitated and equipped. Mr. Christophe Charbon also underscored that some of the projects will be completed in 2024. He noted the need for the construction of more Gendarmerie Posts amongst other challenges. The meeting was equally an opportunity for the Minister of Youth and Civic Education MOUNOUNA FOUTSOU to express the needs of the youths to the different international partners present, saying that the youths need more of training, so that they could better valorize the opportunities brought to them.

 

Speaking to the press, the Resident Representative of UNDP in Cameroon, ALIOU MAMADOU DIA explained that more needs to be done and that they will initiate a third phase of the Stabilization Facility For The Lake Chad Basin, Cameroon Window in the Far North Region and this will be a co creation of the UNDP , Government and Funders.
The Representative of the Governor of the Far North region Nchotu Abraham Tembei, who is the Inspector in charge of Deconcentrated Technical Services at the Governor’s Office of the Far North Region, testified to the realizations of phase II of the project, which has brought great relief to the populations. He further expressed the wish for the reconstruction of destroyed homes be taken into consideration in the anticipated third phase of the Stabilization Project in the Far North region.

On his part, Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey praised the work of the 2 phases of the project have shown, explaining that it is thanks to the contributions of the partners, financially as well as the contribution of our authorities who have been very instrumental in accompanying the implementation of this important project. He noted that three key areas have been targeted; the first is safety security of the population and their goods, the second is the construction of infrastructures and also extending this infrastructure to be able to really create the right conditions for development and lastly the economization of empowering women, youth through income generating activities. The Minister expressed that “I think that, all these key areas of action are going to bring back, serenity, confidence from the people because of the situation they were witnessing. This time around they have very strong confidence in their future”.
