Community Diplomacy: Alamine OUSMANE MEY Bearer of a Closed Letter to Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno

The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Special Envoy of the Cameroonian Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya, was received in audience on Friday, 10 March 2023 at the TOUMAÏ Palace by the Chadian Head of State, H.E. Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

The Minister was bearer of a closed letter from the Cameroonian Head of State, the serving Chairperson of the Conference of Heads of State of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), to His Chadian Counterpart. According to Alamine Ousmane Mey, this mission to Ndjamena falls within the framework of regular consultations on the economic, monetary and financial situation of the CEMAC. It is also an opportunity to review the functioning of the Community Institution in order to respond in a concerted, structured and solidarity-based way to the shocks facing the States of the sub-region. This consultation is justified by the current context marked by the negative repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on the CEMAC economies. As in 2016, 2019 and 2021, this initiative intends to give the economies of the sub-region a new momentum. The meeting of President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno with the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic H.E. Paul Biya, was also an opportunity to evidence the excellent relations of centuries-old friendship and cooperation between Yaounde and Ndjamena.
