Cameroon – UNDP Cooperation: bright prospects ahead

This was the conclusion of the audience granted on 15 June 2023 in Yaounde by Alamine Ousmane Mey, Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), to Aliou Mamadou Dia, the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cameroon.

Aliou Mamadou Dia, following the meeting affirmed upon arrival in Cameroon six weeks ago, he was keen to come and meet the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, to reiterate UNDP’s gratitude for the Government’s ever-renewed commitment in general and MINEPAT’s in particular, to supporting UNDP operations in Cameroon.
He seized of the opportunity to point out that the United Nations Development Programme in Cameroon is working closely with MINEPAT on a number of development projects, including the integrated development financing, the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North-West and South-West Regions and stabilisation projects in the Far-North of Cameroon.

These projects were at the heart of the discussions between the two personalities. The guest of MINEPAT also declared, “the prospects are good” between Cameroon and the UNDP, before adding that the two parties will work to strengthen and improve this cooperation framework for the well-being of the Cameroonian people.
As a reminder, the UNDP is the United Nations’ lead agency for international development, working in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality, through the development of policies, leadership skills, partnership capacities, institutional capacities and building resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Three intervention areas guide the institution: sustainable development, democratic governance, peace-building, as well as climate and disaster resilience.
