15th Conference of the CEMAC Heads of State: Alamine Ousmane Mey Decorated as Grand Officer of the Order of Community Merit

The Cameroonian Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development received this honour on 17 March 2023 at the Unity Palace in Yaoundé, from the Cameroonian Head of Government, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Paul BIYA, current chairperson of the Conference of CEMAC Heads of State, at the time of the event.

One of the most outstanding events of the 15th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) held on 17 March 2023 in Yaounde, was the award of honorary distinctions to 11 personalities, including Mr. Alamine Ousmane Mey. The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development was decorated as Grand Officer of the Order of Community Merit by the CEMAC Heads of State, for his good and loyal services to the Community during his term as Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Union of Central Africa (EUCA).

Another recipient was the Cameroonian Charles Assamba Ongodo. The latter was decorated as Commander of the Order of Community Merit, for his dynamism as Chairperson of the Inter-State Committee of the EUCA. Following the decisions of the CEMAC Heads of State Conference, Charles Assamba Ongodo was appointed Deputy Chairperson of the CEMAC Commission for a five-year term. The 56-year-old former Director General of Cooperation and Regional Integration at MINEPAT, who replaces the Chadian Fatim Haram Acyl, will now have the great responsibility of assisting the newly appointed Chairperson of the CEMAC Commission, Baltasar Engonga Edjo of Equatorial Guinea, in the implementation of the guidelines of the Heads of State Conference, the supreme authority of the Community. The main objective is to foster the harmonious integration of national economies through structuring and integrating projects and the implementation of the new Regional Economic Programme (2023-2027) based on a portfolio of 11 priority projects likely to speed up the physical and commercial integration across the CEMAC sub-region.
